All Wheelbarrows on Parade

Anyone who has traveled to major cities in recent years has probably experienced the wealth of regionally significant art objects which have been displayed on their streets: Hearts in San Francisco, Cows in Chicago and New York, Moose in Toronto, Bears in Berlin, and lately, Lions in Sacramento. The Placerville Downtown Association would like to create something equally unique in Placerville, but of course, on a much smaller scale. Because of historical significance to the Placerville community, wheelbarrows have been chosen. The wheelbarrows would be colorfully personalized by regional artists and then publicly displayed. This display would be for everyone's enjoyment from Spring thru Summer 2005. At the end of that time, the artwork would be given to local charitable groups to auction off with proceeds benefiting the individual charities.

The benefits from this project are numerous. It will inspire tourism and bring together different factions of the town such as The Arts, schools, city, and business. A new project like this creates excitement, enthusiasm, and global interest. And the best thing is that we will be benefiting charities while setting our city apart!

To ensure this project is a resounding success, we are looking for merchants, individuals, or organizations interested in sponsorship of these pieces of art at their location or on Main Street. Placerville Downtown Association has already dedicated $5000 to the project and The Placerville City Council has allocated funds as well.

Artists interested in participating in the creation of these pieces of art should contact Barbara Holmes at Hidden Passage Books for submission forms.

Interested parties can contact Barbara Holmes with questions or for participation at (530) 622-4540 or via email at hiddenpassagebooks@hotmail.com.
