November 25 through December 25
The holiday season in Placerville is great fun for everyone! There are lots of beautiful lights, decorated merchant windows, a Christmas parade, special shopping events, visits with Santa, and yes, even free stagecoach rides.
Festival of Lights
The Festival of Lights will be on Friday, November 25th (the day after Thanksgiving), from 5:30PM to 8PM on Historic Main Street in Placerville. The old-fashioned festivities will close Historic Main Street and begin around 5:30PM at various locations up and down Main Street with music, entertainment, Santa, stagecoach rides, and the tree-lighting at 6PM at the Courthouse.
Visits with Santa during the Festival of Lights will be from 6:15PM – 7:30PM at River City Bank (348 Main Street).
Merchant's Open House & Stagecoach Rides
On the evening of the Festival of Lights (Friday, November 25) and the next evening (Saturday the 26th), Historic Main Street merchants welcome visitors with coffee, cider and seasonal goodies. Enjoy hometown holiday shopping and hospitality in one convenient setting! There will be free parking, entertainment and visits with Santa (Friday night only)..
Also, Davey "Doc" Wiser and his crew will be providing FREE rides (in good weather) at the Bell Tower not only on November 25th during the Festival of Lights from 4:30PM-6:30PM, but also November 26th from 12PM-4PM during the Merchant's Open House and on two Saturdays in December—December 10th & 11th from 12PM-4PM, and, December 17th & 18th from 12PM-4PM. If you've never ridden in a real stagecoach, this is a great opportunity!
34th Annual Christmas Parade
The big Christmas Parade this year is our 34th annual parade and it begins around 1PM on December 4th. This big parade takes place rain or shine and starts at the Mountain Democrat parking lot on upper Broadway in Placerville and continues down Main Street. This year's theme is "There is Magic in Believing" and is sponsored by Jim and Cathy McIntire and The City of Placerville. Shoppers will have a chance to win one of 12 Gift Baskets specially designed by our local merchants (valued at up to $100 each) during the 12 Days of Christmas Gift Basket Giveaway! There will also be a Grand Prize awarded (a Benton Studios photo of Main Street mounted on canvas).
As a way of saying THANK YOU for Shopping Locally, customers will be given a Prize Drawing Ticket at participating merchants (see below) between November 25th and December 16th for purchases over $15. Winners will be drawn and notified after December 17th. Get your shopping done early and win a great gift basket from Historic Main Street.

Visits with Santa
Santa will be arriving in Historic Downtown Placerville to listen to those special wishes on the following dates:
- December 3rd, 11AM-2PM – Kiddlywinks (262 Main Street)
- December 10th & 17th, 1PM-4PM – Annieberries (320 Main Street)
Photos will be available for purchase, but are not required to visit with Santa.
