Bell Tower Brewfest

Saturday June 25, 6pm – 9pm

Placerville's Bell Tower

How many towns dress up their historic monument in the center of town to look like a beer stein? Not too many! But the Placerville Downtown Association pulls out all the stops to promote the Bell Tower Brewfest, now in its eleventh year. Our historic bell tower gets "all dressed up" for the event.

This year's Bell Tower Brewfest is on Saturday, June 25th, 2011 from 6pm to 9pm. The festival will close Historic Main Street from Sacramento Street to Clay Street. Over 35 craft breweries will be pouring samples inside merchant locations and in the Mooney Parking Lot near Tortilla Flats.

For those wishing to sample the beers, tickets are available for $30 each in Placerville at River City Bank and Tony Matthews (on Main Street) or at Placerville Brewing Co. and Brick Oven Pub (on Placerville Drive). See more information about purchasing tickets here. Tickets are limited and often sell out each year, so be sure to get the beer sampling tickets early (sorry, no refunds). For Designated Drivers and those who want to enjoy the music and late night shopping & dining, there is no ticket required, so come enjoy a great summer evening on Main Street.

Music

This year's featured bands will include the energetic blues tunes of Mark Hummel & The Blues Survivors with special guest Steve Freund at The Bell Tower, and the rockabilly, jazz and blues sounds of Tess & Hip Trash at the Mooney Parking Lot near Tortilla Flats.

Mark Hummel & The Blues Survivors

with Special Guest, Steve Freund

Mark Hummel

Mark Hummel is a true Blues Survivor. He has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound – a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack, combined with a strong sense of swing. Hummel, a seasoned audience-pleaser, has achieved wide recognition through nearly constant touring and appearances at the major blues festivals which have firmly established his solid reputation around the US, Canada and Europe.

He has been a popular Bay Area (Berkeley) bluesman since the seventies and has played alongside such blues greats as Charlie Musselwhite, Brownie McGhee, Lowell Fulson and Eddie Taylor. He has been producing and performing at his "Blues Harmonica Blowout" series to sell-out crowds, and the list of participants is a Who's Who of Blues harp history. And a guest appearance with the band by blues guitar master Steve Freund is an added bonus for festival goers at this year's Brewfest.

Tess & Hip Trash

Tess & Hip Trash

Tess and Hip Trash met in prison – no they weren't doing time, they were playing music for the inmates as part of a blues society project to educate juvenile offenders, real "Jailhouse Rock". Part of this gig was a songwriting contest that had bandleader/guitarist Paris Clayton write and record songs using the young inmates lyrics. When the group recorded this song Paris was so impressed with Tess's killer vocals that he asked her to record some other songs, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Blues, Soul, and Roots Rock influenced original tunes and heartfelt covers, all done in a smart,. unique, and sometimes humorous style. Tess is backed by a group of veteran pros who have played with a long list of legendary artists.
